A designed Monday’s Google Doodle, which invoked the Black Lives Matter movement.
Akilah Johnson got to see her artwork plastered on after winning Google’s nationwide “” contest for students, the Washington Post reports. “My Afrocentric Google is drawn as a box braid, with my personal characteristics surrounding it. I based this picture off my lifestyle and what has made me into what I am today,” the Eastern Senior High School student explained in a brief description.
The young artist, who beat about 100,000 student entries, told the Post it was “really overwhelming” to win. “I was so excited, I started crying. I didn’t even look at anybody. I was just looking at the framed copy [of the Doodle] they gave me,” she said.
